The first Global Pan African Conference in The Gambia will take place the week beginning 25 May 2020 in commemoration of the first Pan African Conference of 1900 in London, England. This conference will then take place on alternate years at the same time, each year. The aims and objectives are drawn from the aspirations of the Africa Union Commission document, Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want .

Conference Call for Papers
The first ‘Global Pan-African Conference: The Africa We Want,’ organised by Mboka Festival of
Arts Culture and Sport, will take place from Monday, 25 May, to Thursday 28 May 2020 in The
Gambia. The 2020 conference commemorates the 120th anniversary of the first Pan African
Conference, organised by Henry Sylvester Williams in London. Subsequent GPAC conferences
will take place on alternate years. The conference uses as its foundational aims the AU
document, ‘Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want’.https://au.int/en/agenda2063/overview.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be used as reference material and a partner
in sustainable development. The first conference will focus on issues of governance, women,
arts and culture, youth and diaspora.
The object of the conference is not only to contribute to the Pan-African driven Agenda as relates
to the ‘Africa We Want’ document but also to focus on how The Gambia can play its part locally,
regionally and continentally. The conference also seeks to explore how The Gambian people can
benefit from African integration
We are primarily interested in presentations which cover the topics outlined below and those
which are based on praxis as well as theory (this includes methods and practice from the past
and present). We also welcome abstracts from a range of other topics that will be pertinent for
Africa in 2020 and beyond.
There will be a minimum of four sessions on each theme:
Aspiration 2. An integrated content, political united, based on the ideals of Pan-
Africanism and the vision of Africa’s Renaissance.
