Mboka Festival Wuri Tournament Winner to represent The Gambia in Saudia Arabia
Abdullah Cham will be representing The Gambia in the Ethno games in Saudi Arabia in March. The King Abdullah Aziz Camel Festival is in its third year and runs from 1 February to 20 March 2019. Cham will be playing Wuri (‘Oware’ as it is known in Ghana and played there as the national game) and Toguz . Cham took 2nd place at the Mboka Festival Wuri Tournament in 2018 at Mymoonia Garden Restaurant in Sukuta where he also plays and teaches the game to all who are interested including children and visitors. In January, this dedicated and inspiring player, officiated The Mboka Festival Wuri tournament at Jarama Restaurant in Kololi. He was chosen by The Oware Society in London to represent The Gambia because of his hard work in promoting the game at home
The first place winner in 2018 was Femi Elufowoju jr an award winning visiting Nigerian/British theatre director who donated his D3000 winnings to Roots pre-school in the village of Sambuyang. The first place winner in 2019 was Lamin Njie, (who was placed third in the 2018 tournament), Isatou Bah was placed second and Ousman Jassey was placed third in the 2019 tournament.
Abdullah Cham will Join several hundred other athletes from all over the world vying for Gold, Silver and Bronze to participate in the Congress of World Ethnogames Confederation and General Assembly of World Camel Organization, which will is held in the framework of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival and International Ethnofestival "Nomad Universe" in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 20 to 23 March, 2019. Abdullah has also been invited to represent The Gambia in the conference after the Ethno festival.
